Un pulsioxímetro es un dispositivo que mide de forma no invasiva la saturación de oxígeno de la hemoglobina (SpO2). Puede utilizarse tanto en hospitales como en casa. Es especialmente útil para personas con afecciones pulmonares y cardiovasculares. El pulso y la saturación se miden mediante un sensor especial de infrarrojos y, si se detecta una anomalía, se avisa al usuario mediante una alarma.
Utilizando el sensor de saturación de SpO2 adecuado, se puede medir la frecuencia del pulso, es decir, el número de latidos del corazón por minuto. La frecuencia cardiaca puede disminuir o aumentar debido al esfuerzo, estado emocional, medicación, enfermedad, etc. El pulsioxímetro calcula un valor numérico de %SpO2.
Valor exacto: por encima del 95% - 99-100% durante la oxigenoterapia.
Los valores bajos (especialmente por debajo del 90%) pueden indicar parada respiratoria/hipoxia.
