This live trap is suitable for catching martens, raccoons, weasels, minks, polecats, rabbits, hares, cats, rats, and muskrats. The Viano P1 live trap is large enough (dimensions: 75 x 26 x 30 cm) to allow captured animals freedom of movement. The trap has a sturdy construction (2 mm wire), as martens have sharp teeth and can chew through a weaker trap to free themselves. The entire unit is 100% galvanized, meaning it is rustproof and resistant to weather conditions such as rain, snow, etc. The galvanized finish has another advantage: it is odorless. This is very important when it comes to luring the animal into the trap. Varnished traps discourage the animal from entering.
SAFETY FIRST
The trap handle is equipped with a metal hand guard, ensuring that when you carry the captured animal, it won’t bite or scratch your hand. The guard on VIANO traps measures as much as 18 by 18 cm.
Wild animals are the primary carriers of rabies and often serve as a reservoir for this dangerous disease. The virus is most commonly transmitted through a bite or scratch. The Viano P1 live trap, thanks to its large protective shield and sturdy construction, minimizes the risk of contact with the animal.
Once a marten has been caught, it should be released as soon as possible. It is recommended to do this in a forested area at least 25 km from the trapping site. This increases the chances that the animal will not find its way back to its original territory and will instead establish a new one.
PLACING BAIT
Using the stainless steel tongs included in the kit, place the bait (eggs, meat, fish) on the metal tray. Items that can lure martens into the traps include bird eggs, meat (even with feathers, e.g., chicken, pigeon), and fruit (plums, cherries). Peanut butter or Nutella can also attract martens—experience shows that these foods pique the animals’ interest. Do not touch the bait directly with your hands, as your scent may discourage the animal from taking it. Place the bait in a way that minimizes your contact with it (use the plastic gloves included in the kit).
BAIT FOR MUSTELIDS
The easiest and most effective way to catch martens and other rodents, raccoons, and polecats is with raw eggs. To lure them, place four eggs on the trap tray.
The included weasel lure also has a high success rate. This product is best placed above the tray on the included hanger. Martens are wary animals, and if they smell food near their den, they may keep their distance. An effective method is to lay a trail of small amounts of bait leading to the trap’s entrance.
If you know the martens’ running paths, the trap should be placed there, if possible. Placing it, for example, directly in the attic of a house also works well. Using stones, branches, etc., you can create a sort of funnel that, by acting as obstacles around the entrance, can lead the marten straight into the trap. Martens dislike mesh under their feet, so creating a “floor” out of leaves, soil, or similar materials can help confuse the marten.
LATCH-AND-LOCK DOOR CLOSING SYSTEM
The latch-and-lock door closing system of the trap works as follows: the flap-style doors, as they close, are additionally secured by a sturdy steel frame, preventing the trap from being opened from the inside. The main flap forms a 45° angle with the ground and is reinforced/locked by a steel frame that drops down at a 90° angle to the main flap. This design ensures that the flap is securely closed. It is a fast and reliable system, and the drop-down flaps actually help guide the animal into the trap.
Captured animals sometimes have to exert incredible strength to escape the trap—VIANO traps easily withstand these forces thanks to their well-thought-out design and the quality of the materials used.

BAIT TRAY
The trap is equipped with a tray featuring four holes for eggs and two hooks for easily securing meat. When an animal attempts to take the bait, the tray tilts, triggering the latches and causing the cage to close instantly. The simple latch system used in the trap works very efficiently and is sensitive to even the slightest movement of the bait plate. The stainless steel construction of the cage ensures smooth movement of the door in its guides and prevents the mechanism from jamming.

Homes and farms (especially those located on the edges of forests, near rivers, fields, or meadows) are vulnerable to visits from wild animals. Some of these animals pose a real threat to poultry, crops, fish ponds, and even homes.
